Kinabalu Golf Club

The Kinabalu Golf Club is regarded as the oldest club in Sabah and was where golfing took root in Kota Kinabalu in March 1933. Back then it was known as the Jesselton Golf Club and members, mostly of British and European origin, numbered about 50.

During the Japanese occupation of Borneo in WWII the golfing activities at the club was suspended and only resumed again in 1948. The club relocated from its old site to the present location in Tanjung Aru – a 10-minute walk from Shangri La’s Tanjung Aru Resort, right opposite First Beach – where it sports an 11-hole golf course and clubhouse.

After a fire razed the original clubhouse in 1962, it was rebuilt and in 1963, together with the completion of the new clubhouse, it was renamed Kinabalu Golf Club. The golf course occupies about 40 acres of mostly flat and gentle land. The course rating is 70 with a 125 slope rating.
